Tomi from Ljubljana / Slovenia. Tomi is 35 years old, former drug addict works for "Kings of the Street", a monthly newspaper made by homeless people. He writes articles, takes photos and shoots videos. He also help by handing out newspapers in the streets.

Working for the paper, which is co-funded by Europe, has the opportunity to share his views with others and be a part of society.

Eloise from Barcelona / Spain. Eloise is 87 years old and lives alone in an apartment. She has no children and her physical condition prohibits to leave her house by herself. An autonomous organisation of Ministry of Health and Social Services takes care of Eloise.

Eloise said about the volunteer Maite (a woman, who is coming to Eloise' home twice per week and helps her:

" She's like my own flesh and blood. Her coming into my life was heaven sent. They've enriched my life". Elderly people like Eloisa are very frequently victims of social exclusion and poverty.

Ryan from Valetta / Malta. Ryan is 19 years old, wheel chair user. He is working as a volunteer in a project called “Summer Club”. Together with other volunteers he organized activities for children of the local community. The project gave him a new confidence.

Ryan said:

"I am currently studying at university in order to become a social worker. I want to do my masters and maybe some day I will be able to run for election as well."

People with disabilities are more vulnerable to social exclusion than others. But Ryan proves the opposite.

Filipe from Erpeldange / Luxembourg. Born in Portugal, spent his childhood going from one school to another, without success. Eventually he found himself sitting at home, unemployed. With the help of the National Youth Service of Luxembourg, which is also funded by Europe, he found a job. Filipe now works in a nursing home.

Marie-Josée Jacobs - Minister of family and Integration said:

"We must avoid youth leaving school early if we want to eradicate poverty. Also unemployment and housing are an issue. We must have social services and better governance."

Athina from Pireaus / Greece. Athina lost her job 6 months ago. She worked in a supermarket for 5 years. Unemployed and divorced, she has to raise her 5 children on her own. The social grocery store offers a temporary solution to her awkward financial situation.

Sponsoriser une école en Tanzanie

RHL¹ lance une campagne pour sponsoriser l’école de Saadani en Tanzanie.
Le 9 Octobre 2010 l’association SANA en collaboration avec le Saadani Safari Lodge a procédé à l’inauguration de l’école élémentaire de Saadani pour soutenir l'éducation de jeunes de ce village.

Saadani est un village de 2 646 habitants parmi lesquels 1 253 jeunes d’un âge inferieur à 18 ans.

¹RHL: L’association «Regard Humanitaire Lycéen du Lycée Jean PERRIN» pour la sensibilisation des élèves aux problèmes humanitaires et d’essayer de leur permettre de mener des actions concrètes de diverses natures.
